Story Behind the Song
Matthew was trying to write a gentle, slightly jazzy song in a folk-rock/alt-country vein, and it took on a life of its own. The lyrics are for people that share the pain of our loss of democracy, justice and love in this country over the past few years. There are touches of grey Dead and hints of afro-caribbean sounds embedded far below the traditional americana surface.
