A song about wishing you could be so much more to the one person you may never be anything to. |

Story Behind the Song
I once knew a girl who had experienced so much pain in her last love. It had shaken her to the very foundations of her being. I had experienced very much the same. She was my kindred spirit and for that...I soon ended up falling in love with her. However, I would later discover that she was a girl pleased only by what her eyes told her. Not her heart. No matter how much I let her lean on me for support, I could never truly be what she wanted. Before that realization, this song was written, not just as a seranade, but as a question posed to make her think; was it possible I could be what her heart needed in order to heal? Could I be the one to hold her heart, and give her the love I felt she truly deserved?
Lyrics
Could I be the one to hold you,
After all the others tried to mold you?
Could I be the one to catch you when you come undone?
Could I be the one to hold you?
Could I be the one to save you?
Could I be the one who gave you (a little piece of his heart?)
Could I be the one to take away the damage done?
Could I be the one to save you?
If only, if only
How I wish that you could see...
If only, if only
what those two words mean to me.
Could I be the one to feel you?
Could I ever see the real you? (could the walls come down?)
Could I be the sun to burn away the rain that's come?
Could I be the one to heal you?
Could I ever run my fingers through your hair?
Could I be present in your mind when I'm not there?
Could I be the man who finally understands you.
Could I be the last to love you?
If only, if only
How I wish that you could see...
If only, if only
what those two words mean to me.
If only, if only
How I wish that you could see...
If only, if only
what those two words mean to me.
