This song is my response to what's happening in our world.

    Story Behind the Song
I had the oppotunity to sing this song at the anti-war rally in San Francisco on the main stage to tens of thousands Feb 16th.

I wrote this song as a response to what is going on in our world. As a young woman of the United States, I address Lady America as if I'm her daughter pleading for some understanding and clarity on my brother's actions towards war.

    Lyrics
    LADY AMERICA

Lady America, this is the birth of a monster
Come from you, and he wants war
Now that he’s been so free and independent
He’s come for you, and he wants more
He wants our fathers and the contract between you
After all it was them that shed blood to wed you

    Get yourself out of hell
    Don’t be afraid to rebel
    Don’t be afraid to yell
Don’t be afraid to ring the bell!

This is the sound your children wait for
Who cannot claim brother to the monster who’s born
Who hide in our houses suckling the TV
Who hurry to lock the doors of our SUV’s
Who eat ‘till we’re sore, and then eat some more
Who hide from our brother who instigates war.

And I claim the shame, Oh Mother, Mother, America
I claim the shame of what’s done with my name, America
I claim the shame of America

Lady America, we are getting tired and afraid
We don’t know if we want to know or if we want to be swayed
We don’t know if we should rest or why we should fight
Give us the truth on what is
    What is right?

    Lady America
    You’ve lost your child,
he’s destructive and full of hate and wild
He’s spoiled and ignorant and out of control
And I’m ashamed to call him brother
I’m ashamed to be your girl.

And I claim the shame, oh Mother, Mother, America
I claim the shame of what’s done with my name, America
I claim the shame of America.
