    Story Behind the Song
This song began with the lyrics, which were written by the extraordinary Rose Ella Jones, who is also the sister of Motown Legend Smokey Robinson. She is also the author of Robinson's "Quiet Storm". Jones was inspired to write the song after reading Tina Turner's autobiography and reflecting upon her own life. She presented the lyrics to Gerard, who immediately added the melody and music to complete the marriage definitely made in Heaven.

    Lyrics
Free to be me, no more cryin'
    Free to feel without denyin'
    Only up, no more down
No more goin' 'round facin' the ground

No more misery, no more pain
No more livin' in the purple reign
Of tears and fears that grip the spine
Oh at last I'm free to shine

    Giving in to free expression
Being the woman that I am
    Living completely free of depression
    I am, I am, I am
    (Back to Refrain)

No more chokin' love to enslave me
Free to use the will that God gave me
No more stealing of my confidence
Suddenly life begins to make some sense

As all around me beauty begins to unfurl
Hello world, can you look at me and see
    That I am totally
    (Back to Refrain)
