Story Behind the Song
Dedicated to the memory of Mr. John Jackson, a man who radiated sweetness and warmth. While I couldn't figure out the song he was trying to teach me, I did this instead and tried to write lyrice that fit the mood.
I think it was partly affected by my memories of warm summer days in Chattanooga, Tennessee, but since Mr. Jackson came from Rappahannock County, Virginia, well...
Lyrics
Save me a spot in the shade, out on the backporch with some cold lemonade, and them old country blues playing on the radio.
Yeah I know I've got lots of bills to pay, but I don't hardly feel like working today, when I got this guitar and these old Rappahannock County blues.
Well I've learned to appreciate things of the past, and this old modern world full of this stuff that don't last... and there ain't too much of it even worth keeping, at least not what I've seen.
So save me a spot there in the shade. Out on the front porch where I know Mr. John Jackson is still playing them old Rappahannock County Blues.
