Story Behind the Song
I wrote this song for my friends' teenage daughter who had run away. The emotion behind this song was fueled by my heartache for my older sister who had run away more than 20 years ago and still struggles with substance abuse. I am always reminded that no matter who you are and where you've gone, God is always waiting with his arms open wide.
Lyrics
You left a good home to what looks promising
To do your own thing
Advice comes to you in different voices
You’re making choices
When the thrills are over
And you don’t have a dime
And the people you call “friends”
Don’t give you time
Come home, come home
Come home, come home
Come home, come home
Come home, come home, come home
Before you were born, God made big plans for you
Oh, it’s very true
He made you so unique, so wonderfully
You’re his specialty
He’s the one that you thought
Was tryin’ to ruin your life
But He’s waiting patiently
With arms open wide (Chorus)
Bridge:
You’re never too far away to come home
It will be okay to come home
The doors are open for you to walk through
Forgiveness, grace and mercy, are here for you
Come home, come home, come home, come home (key change)
Come home (closer than the air around you)
Come home (Jesus’ love always surrounds you)
Come home (No escaping, He has found you) Come home (oh)
Come home (You know He is always waiting)
Come home (Open arms anticipating)
Come home (Never ever hesitating) Come home
