Story Behind the Song
I wrote it when my girlfriend left for a week to go on a cruise to Mexico with her grandma. I stayed at her house and watched her dogs. The second or third night I wrote most of this song. It took me about an hour or two I suppose. I'm pretty sure I recorded it on the first take.
Lyrics
On your way to Mexico,
I gotta know, I oughta know,
you love me so, but I don't know.
You gotta go
Onto your mexicano cruise
your heart to lose, and ther're boys there,
you can't refuse, what will you choose
while on your cruise
While on your way with grandma dear
well I still fear that you will hear
a voice so clear and want to steer
to him my dear.
So many things to see,
while on the open sea,
do you still want to see me?
So many things to say,
but not today,
cause you're on your way.
On your way to baja cal
I know you shall still be my gal
and my best pal, but I still shall
feel just like Cal-
vin and hobbes cause I talk to you
but you're still far. yes we're still far
from marriage car, oh yes we are,
so very far.
On the way to breakin' up,
or makin' up
lies to tell me
lyin' beside me
send you on your way
On your way to Mexico,
I gotta know, I oughta know
I'm still your bo' but I don't know
I love you so
Got your call, you're back in town,
but I'm still down
down on my knees,
prayin' you'll love me,
prayin' you're on your way
on your way to me back home,
at least I hope
