Story Behind the Song
This one is for a friend of mine I’ve sort of slipped apart from over the years. Whose fault it is, I don’t really know. She read the lyrics, but nothing’s really changed since this song was written almost a year ago. This was kinda like my attempt at an apology, but apparently words never meant much, I lesson we’ve learned from each other over the years in high school. I guess sometimes high school just does that to people.
Lyrics
Let me just say one thing, or maybe two or three or more. Forgive me if this comes out wrong, or insincere. I wish we could stand in your backyard, for maybe just an hour or two, and say the things that we always used to, back when things weren’t so complicated, what with life so busy and all. After all, I never intended for this to be an anthem for all the rainy days I should have spent with someone like you. For all the cars I watch go by, it’s just another reason why I still believe I was destined to only dream of your eyes and your smile. With only sixteen months and some odd days to go, I feel like if we don’t connect now, we may never have a chance, although we probably never did. Maybe today. I’m sorry I never stopped to look under my nose to see who was real. I guess neither one of us has been much of a friend these past few years.
