Story Behind the Song
This is a song about heartbreak and having to live with the constant reminders and memories of a person I lost. But beyond the loss and sadness is a catharis and realization that I can prevent being hurt that badly again.
Lyrics
Do you know that I'm lost still even though I've survived?
Do you know that it wakes me with sweat and chills at the same time?
How we almost made it, we went through so much -
Even two years later the truth always hurts.
'Cause you were summer when my heart took wing,
Now you only reside in my memory.
So I'll begin with a tear in my pride,
Hoping it will heal but it's been taking time.
Do you know it's been hard to believe that love really exists?
Because I have clarity now, I see through lies I used to miss.
And it keeps me cautious so I don't mistake
What could feel good now can be another heartache.
'Cause you were summer, I almost forgot
Knowing we were always on the clock.
If I knew feelings could change overnight
I would've run away from you that day,
Try to forget your face, forget your name.
My heart's back in one piece but sometimes it doesn't beat right,
And it seems I'm still living even though a part of me died.
'Cause we almost made it, I relied on us
And it still shocks me to have to give you up.
'Cause you were summer and my whole city
Now you only reside in my memory.
So I'll get through all my days and my nights
But the ghost of you is always by my side.
