    Story Behind the Song
I wrote this song when I moved back home to my small town on Long Island, after living in various big cities for past 7 years. It's about discovering that many things I didn't like about this place still haven't changed, with many people still having that small town gossip mentality and ignorance from never having left their city limits.

    Lyrics
My eyes are blind and baby blue
When I've only been back a day or two
Somewhere there's a stench of laughter rising
So toss off your boots and loosen your tie
'Cause talking trash helps everyone unwind
Go round up the herd and start a lynching

And as your wallet empties there's a man to come and fill it
But he can't take you out to cross these city limits
You say you want my life but I'm the one who has to live it
And you got too much fear to cross these city limits

At the bar you stay a year or two
With your same bad luck and point of view
Pick a drink and maybe some diseases
And don't you wish you were in your teenage skin
And in your church clothes and on Ritalin
Share your thoughts with someone else who's dying

'Cause when my space is empty I know you will quickly fill it
As soon as I drive farther from these city limits
When the smiling fades then everyone has to admit it
We all turned out the same inside these city limits

Look at how this town has made me blue
    Because it's still a stain I can't undo
    Somewhere there's a truth that I'm denying
So pack up your wagon, lasso your pride
'Cause talking trash helps everyone unwind
Somewhere there's regret that keeps you crying

'Cause when my space is empty I know you will quickly fill it
As soon as I drive farther from these city limits
You say you want my life but I'm the one who has to live it
And you got too much fear to cross these city limits
