Story Behind the Song
Slow Breeze and Shallow Water
This song is on of my favorites;first off, the title. This night not make anysense to anyone, but this song is about apathy and motivation. It's about so many people being afraid of anything about anything. It's about a stagnation of change. I was kind of down on people at the time because I was exposed to so much prejudice and sad content. About the title. I basically get the feeling of such indecision and state of stagnance when I visualize slow breeze and shallow water. So It's pretty much just a me thing. Also, I'd like to point out that I use the word we in most of the song because in my life I've seen a bit of apathy and a bit of indecision. So I am guilty of the same. The last for line of the verse depict that. Basically I'm saying that I'm upset with apathy and so I try to dig down to pull up answers to my questions, but sometimes I don't know what to do. That's where the lyric,"All I see is smoke" comes in. But, in the second verse, I've made a transition and have acted and am currently doing my best to do good things and help other people.
Lyrics
slow breeze and shallow water
another night of nothing, another time to wait
one more time we'll step aside for someone else to take
the soaked with apathy, so thick that i could choke
i shut my eyes to look inside, but all i see is smoke
no time for separation
each other is all we need
not for god or country or anyone
we come together for the sake of peace
no cultural expectatios
you're all the same as me
with an unwilted show of tolerance
what a change we'd come to see
i'm tired and frustrated, with the way things are
changes coming slowly, and results seem so far
a sun now sets for us, chances squandered and torn
if we could pull together for one moment, our own light be born
but we've all just thrown it away, a wound dug deeply in ourselves
as we pull further away, we pour salt in our gashes as well
no time for separation
each other is all we need
not for god or country or anyone
we come together for the sake of peace
no cultural expectations
you're all the same as me
with an unwilted show of tolerance
what a change we'd come to see
a dream that slowly dies
a thought that trickles away
can you grab it before it's gone
can you catch it and force it to stay
cause my fingers are too weak
and my mind is tired with what i see
under a shower of all that could have been
i feel it all start slipping from me
