Story Behind the Song
This song was written as "homework" suggested by a councelor to help relations between a girl and her father. It tells a story about how the father used to tuck her in at night and make her laugh, but things changed when she got older, and the father's fear of her beauty drove her away and into the wrong crowd. But he misses her when he sends her away. The song practicall wrote it's self in one day and was recorded on the first take.
Lyrics
When I was just a kid, they told me not to cry.
But that’s just what I did when you said goodbye.
It’s funny what you thought was wrong, is right sometimes.
And it’s hard to cover up, these feelings inside.
There once was a time, when I disowned you.
And I sent you away, to teach you a lesson.
But every now and then, when I see you smile,
We have a fine day, like nothing ever happened.
It’s like a cool breeze, on a hot summer night,
Like a field of flowers, in autumn.
And on the way home, a feeling takes over.
I realize you’re the one, I love like no other.
And I cry, like never before. And I cry, and I just want more.
And all things considered, and all things done,
You’re the only one… You’re the only one.
And I cry…You’re the only one.
(solo)
I remember when, I used to make you laugh.
Tuck you in at night, and wrap you up like a mummy.
But then you got older, and a strange fear inside,
Made me keep a distance, afraid I might fondle.
And even though I knew, this would drive you away,
I just couldn’t stop. It was overcoming.
I hope that some day, when this is over,
You realize you’re the one, I love like no other.
And I cry, like never before. And I cry, and I just want more.
And all things considered, and all things done,
You’re the only one… You’re the only one.
And I cry…You’re the only one.
(solo)
And I cry, like never before. And I cry, and I just want more.
And all things considered, and all things done,
You’re the only one… You’re the only one.
And I cry…You’re the only one.
