Story Behind the Song
This song started as just a jam with Adam, the guitarist, and me, Tres on drums. Eventually we brought in Bill, our bassist to play along with us. After Russell took over on drums, I wrote lyrics to it and began the preliminary stages of the song. Eventually it took its present form, with Jordan on acoustic guitar and Matt on drums. This song was motivated by the sickening blindness of people in choosing their religion. Religion is an important life choice, not one to be blindly made.
Lyrics
With that oh so fucking perfect cause
Burn liberty upon that cross
Clench the world within cleansing jaws
Liberty is a hollow illusion
Salvation is yours, it's yours to reap
If into their chasm you'll silently leap
Surrender your conscience, it's theirs to keep
Liberty is a hollow illusion
Find a new land, a brand new quest
Spread your disease ever-farther west
Convert those heathens, yes do your best
Liberty is a hollow illusion
Violence is swell if it suits their goals
Injustice is fine they're just playing their roles
They'll take their philosophy and shoot more holes
Ignorance can only go so far
Chorus:
Follow our will and sell us your soul
Cry for mercy, we won't hear your plea
Come now lemmings, we're your false idol
All we ask is for one small fee
Just give us this one small fee
Close your mind and obey our decree
Cast your spell your iron shroud
Muffle the truth, you're god-endowed
Such a good little dog, Jesus is proud
Liberty is a hollow illusion
Follow the Bible? No, they don't need it
Obey the clergy? Hell, they don't heed it
Start the fire and use books to feed it
Liberty is a hollow illusion
You're always right, your word is gold
Everyone else better do what they're told
Intelligent thought is far too bold
Liberty is a hollow illusion
Choose your morals, yes pick them well
Follow our commands or you'll go to hell
Don't move a muscle, everything is swell
Ignorance can only go so far
