    Story Behind the Song
Here is another instance of holding on to a project long after the initial inspiriation and enthusiam have worn off. We all know how easy it is to start working on a new song. Not so easy to finish one.

The original demo rhythm track for "Take Some Time" was done by Skip Fennell and intended for another song called "Weaker But Wise", which was an agreed collaboration between Skip, Jerry Wilder, and myself. Jerry's track, however, better suited the lyric so I put a new lyric to Skip's track and melody and that became "Happy Anniversary". We even got the talented vocalist, Ron Cartier, to record a demo with us.

(Hope I haven't lost you but I'm trying to make a point.)

Anyway in the meantime, I came up with another lyric for Skip's track which was "Take Some Time With The One You Love" and then just "Take Some Time".
All of this had been evolving off and on since Thanksgiving weekend 1989 when the three of us agreed; 'hey, let's write something together'! (Now how many times have I heard that one before?) But we were determined to follow through on this.

Still it wasn't until 1995 that I ran into Mr.Harry Coombs of Philadelphia International
Records. This chance meeting, after maybe 20 years since I'd seen him last, ultimately led to a series of studio sessions the following year (1996). "Take Some Time " was one of the tracks.
By that time I had come to know the gifted saxophonist, Johnny Long, who along with Skip and myself came up with this, the latest manifestation of a simple inspired moment almost thirteen years earlier.

Like I said at first, it aint easy but it sure can be worth it if you are lucky enough get to the end.

    Lyrics
Strugglin' day by day / always on the run
Go to work / bills to pay
    Not much time for fun
I’m hung up in traffic / I gotta get to town
Modern day livin' / can really wear you down so

Take some time and spend it with the one you love
Let her know / you're dreamin' of
    A night together

I got two jobs / tryin' hard to make ends meet
I gotta get up early / and always late to sleep
So much to do in so little time / there never is enough
Modern day livin' / but you can't give up so

Take some time and spend it with the one you love
Let her know you're dreamin' of / a night together

Take some time out / with the one you love (repeat)

I just got off / I head straight to the store
I get the same things / but it costs me more and more
My cash is low / I just don’t know / if it’s gonna last
Modern day livin' / and things are movin' fast so

Take some time and spend it with the one you love
Let her know / you're dreamin' of
    A night together

Yeah you gotta take some time out / from the rat race
A candlelight dinner / in a quiet cozy place
Yeah you gotta take some time out / with the one you love

Sometimes you gotta try a little / tend-er-ness
Hey fellows / oh no you won’t miss

You gotta take some time out / with the one you love (repeat)
