Story Behind the Song
My mom braved a very uncertain future by leaving a very secure situation that was very disfunctional. She did this via some great support from by sister Dedra and with (3) kids in tow. This was all during my very formative years. I am still realizing the lessons I learned from her courage and faith. And by the way thank you Debra! The second verse talks about how I discovered a true partner in life with my wife. How she can see into the only place I could hide, scary but very healthy. Her faith and joy still challange me to this day teaching me to be true and not to surrender.
Lyrics
Took three small children,
Fled from the cold.
Remember her ocean eyes,
As she said, "Jeffrey button your coat."
Clasping her hand I,
Followed behind.
Her faith lead me over the walls,
To the truth I needed to find.
Chorus:
And she won't surrender,
She'll never surrender,
The depth in her eyes reveals,
Convictions that are true.
And she won't surrender,]
She'll never surrender,
These things that are close to her heart
She holds a hope and a prayer for you.
I held on tight to forgivness,
For to many years,
Heart worn bitter by wind,
To cold to help with the tears.
Watch running slowly,
It's broken inside,
Her love is the only light,
That shines in where I like to hide.
Chorus:
From the door of our house once,
The silhouette said,
My sadness will steal you virtue,
Like dark colors over passion red.
So in all of my days I,
Hope I never forget,
How she choose courage over a life,
Full of regrets,
Chorus:
So I won't surrender,
No I'll never surrender,
The depth in my eyes reveals,
A conviction that is true.
No I won't surrender,
No I'll never surrender,
These things that are close to my heart,
I hold a hope and a prayer for you.
