Story Behind the Song
Subjects of my songs have ranged from bagels and chocolate to frogs, dogs, snow, rain, flowers, and birds, as well as favorite people. But this granddaughter is too perfect for a mere song. After nearly a year of trying, this is still "no song".
Lyrics
When I sat down to write this song,
I thought it wouldn't take too long
To write a simple little swirl
About a perfect little girl.
Although there's nothing easier
Than caring for and loving her,
There's just no way to put perfection into words.
And there's no song good enough for her.
There is no song about Amelia,
Though her music keeps running through my mind.
She's delightful, she's a darling,
And without a doubt she really is a true one-of-a-kind.
But there is no way to sing perfection,
And of that you surely can be sure,
So there is no song about Amelia,
Because no song is good enough for her.
There are songs about dogs, and songs about frogs,
There are songs about the flowers and the birds.
There are songs about snow, and places to go,
But no one can ever find the proper words
To sing the praises of sweet Amelia.
It's a fate we surely must endure.
There is no song about Amelia
Because no song is good enough for her.
There is no way to sing Amelia,
To describe the brightest star today.
It would take a choir of lovely angels
Just to start to begin with what to say.
Mr. Berlin might write some lyrics,
Mr. Kern compose a lovely score
For Amelia and all her wonders,
But they'd still need Rodgers/ Hammerstein and more.
Old Beethoven and Bach could never unlock
Her secrets so musically wild.
Mr. Mozart could play anything in his day,
But Amelia is a 21st century child.
So let's all sing about Amelia.
She is the future, so brave and pure.
Though we know there's no song about Amelia,
Because no song is good enough for her.
She's the best, she's as good as gold.
She's our girl to have and hold,
But sometimes she'll answer NO,
I'll tell you why that is so.
She's only, only two years, only two years old.
