Story Behind the Song
This song is an attempt to really dwell on where we are headed and make sure that we are heading into a positive direction. The lyrics examine this world currently and current state of mind and put into question whether this state of mind is righteous or not. This song is about healing this generation and generations to come. It was written in my room. The lyrics took a few hours to write. The recording of this song took a few hours. Instrumentation took up some of the time and vocals took about an hour for this song. It took two takes for the instrumentation and two takes for the rap vocals. The sung vocals took three takes to nail down.
Lyrics
Verse 1: So many times start to add up, all the times striking out when at bat up. It's sad yup, when you realize the truth, what we do now paints the future for our youth. The way we treat, the way we eat, people we meet might determine if our kids are in the ground six feet. Or on the street, or in a seat behind a desk, making daddy proud, fifty thou, paid off nest. But we can only speculate what the future holds, I only pray that it satys straight under control, talking bout a world running from the truth of Christ, covering it up with teachers and their classroom lies. Oh I, know the truth and it can be read, in a book that many people feel's words are dead. But if astray we're lead, by what people said, then the path ahead that we're looking to is dead.
Chorus: We've gotta take the reigns, of our next generation. Erase the stains, of our education. I know there's change, that we'll be facing. But we've gotta stay in the right place and, heal this generation.
Verse 2: Times are tough but it's not enough to act rough, shooting over stuff that doesn't matter. Let's open our eyes and see that to some degree, we're one family, at war over seas spreading out disease, the innocent will bleed as they fall to their knees. And plead for their seed that was just concieved having to grow up without the love of her mommy. And over what? The hate? Over what, debate? Over what? Differences of name and state and race, the taste of blood to some is sweet. A treat, i think it's cause they feel the heat, they've fallen to the point of no return. Unaware, though declared that through the heat they'll burn. For their evil ways when no more light exists, out of my father's house, you will be dismissed. That's why it's critical in this time on this earth, to live for Him, teaching others from their birth. To do the same, following the ways of the Lord, and we can all be saved eternally for sure.
(Chorus)
Verse 3: Last verse, last chance to break the curse, see at this rate, it's only getting worse. It hurts, I can't emphasize this enough, if we don't make a change then our kids life's rough. I can only plead, I can only say so much, the only answer is a love that you cannot touch. It's a love for God, a love for each other, the love that makes a man die for his brother. Uh, let's talk about what we're running to, every cherry topped thing that we're coming to. Candy coated, gold plated is what we're drumming to, and if you took it all away, we'de think the fun is through, please. Take a look at what you're calling fun, we're living in a world dominated by the gun. Last week I saw a father kill his only son, look at 2 Pac, Biggie, and Pun. The sun can shine again if we just let it in our hearts, and in our minds, let our actions shine how we feel inside. Maybe there's still time to enlighten our minds, I hope to God you feel it in this rhyme. Give me a sign, now is the time to lay it on the line, now is the time for the sun to shine, now is the time for us to unite, put the past behind, what's mine is your's and what's yours is mine, no more crying.
(Chorus 2 x's)
