Story Behind the Song
Roam is the leader of the lively Eastern Village of Amala. He returns from his journey to the Great Tree to find his fellow villagers tired, hungry, and worried about the future. He sings to them that life is one big party, and there is no need to worry today, because tomorrow will take care of itself.
Lyrics
Gather round, my dear old friends
Your happiness in life depends
On the words of wisdom I will now impart
A better day is here for you now
If you'll only join the luau
Forget your worries and listen to your heart
Oooh, Ooh la la la
We're livin' a slice of life
Oooh, Ooh la la la
We're livin' a slice of life
Others with their doom and gloom
Could dim the light in any room
Bowing to a world of stress and strife
So why get all your nerves akimbo?
Join the Fun! Lean back and Limbo!
So come on! And have another slice of life
Oooh, Ooh la la la
We're livin' a slice of life
Oooh, Ooh la la la
We're livin' a slice of life
Time and time again they say
That work, no play's the only way
To earn your keep
But I'd say we're all doing fine
So come on – and join my conga line
Oooh, Ooh la la la
We're livin' a slice of life
Oooh, Ooh la la la
We're livin' a slice of life
Ev'rybody won't ya listen to me
Drop everyt'ing and let's have a party
Don' wanna see no cryin'
I just want ta hear ya sing
'Cause if you gonna be happy make it soonah den latah
Don't wait around for your piece just like a lazy alligatah
Just t'row away all your troubles
And don' worry 'bout a t'ing
Oooh, Ooh la la la
We're livin' a slice of life
Oooh, Ooh la la la
We're livin' a slice of life
There are no if's, and's or but's
We're livin' a slice of life
If you're not happy then you're coconuts
We're livin' a slice of life
So spend each day without a care
We're livin' a slice of life
Just reach out and take your share
We're livin' a slice of life
Hey … is there any more food anywhere?
