Story Behind the Song
I wrote the music for this song while I was in Sydney. I worked on my finger-picking abilities for about 4 weeks strait since I had left all of my picks in the States.
The lyrics were written while (and influenced by) driving from Louisiana to Boston with my girlfriend. It's sort of an account of driving through the country together and just enjoying it. It's all about the company you keep, maybe.
Lyrics
I ain't no devil, but I ain't no saint
You think I'm bad but you know that I ain't
I'm so good good good,
Good for you.
Drivin across the Southern United States
I turn around and reach in my guitar case
Lucinda Williams and Robert Earl Keen
500 miles pass while we both sing
It's so good good good,
Good for you.
Somewhere in Virginia, or maybe PA
We'll find a quiet place where we can stay.
Don't have to get up early, that's too soon.
The later the better, maybe in the afternoon.
It's so good good good,
Good for you.
Then lazy mornings we can stay home from school,
Or call into work if you play it real cool.
Don't have to get up till the sun goes back down,
Spend all the daylight hours just foolin' around.
It's so good good good,
Good for you.
I aint the devil, but I ain't no saint.
You think I'm bad, but you know that I aint.
Cause I'm just good good good
Good for you.
