The chime of a Zen alarm clock awakens me every morning. From those chimes are built a crescendo of flutes, didgeridoo, and guitar. |

Story Behind the Song
If you've never used a Zen alarm clock, you've never experienced the best way to wake up. (And they're not paying me for the endorsement!)
The way it works is this: A chime rings at a set series of gradually smaller intervals, bringing you slowly and (comparatively) painlessly awake. The second chime is about 4 minutes after the first, and, eventually, the chimes are about 2 seconds apart.
I adapted the progression of chimes to be the structure for this song, to reflect the way my mind feels as it starts to stir, from the muzzy, slow movements of echoing flutes, to the slow pulse of drums, and onward, culminating in a morning prayer of guitars and flute.
