This is an unusual blues song, not at all traditional. It also has a very pointed message to it. If you get it, you get it.

    Story Behind the Song
After I fell off a roof a few years ago, I spent a great deal of time, hundreds of hours, researching things on the Internet. I read Constitution for the United States, the Bill of Rights and other Amendments and a considerable amount of federal and state law and tax code. What I found out shocked me and irrevocably changed my world picture. It's a much different world than we have been led to believe... taught in schools by government controlled curriculum, by a government that instead of serving and protecting the populace, is bent on controlling and, almost literally, enslaving it... a government that calls itself a Democracy, a form of government that our forefathers rejected in favor of that of a Republic, which, unlike a Democracy, which is "majority rules", provides protection for individual rights. And despite the fact that our politicians refer to our government as a Democracy, there has been no legal legislation ever enacted that changes our form of government. If you really read the law, you find out that the federal government cannot levy a tax on your wages, and can't force employers to take taxes out of your paycheck. The people who have been controlling our government for almost the last century have been inexorably guiding us toward a one-world (New World Order) socialist government that is controlled by a relatively small number of elite, powerful people. Practically all media is concentrated into fewer and fewer hands, which carefully manages the "sound bites" that we think of as news. Our misplaced trust in government, and what we think of as a free press, has left most of us blithely unaware or uncaring of anything that happens outside of our immediate personal circle.
This is not a political rant, but an explanation of the inspiration/motivation for the lyrics. The voices are out there, the information and proof is out there, if we care to listen, or more importantly, don't take anybodies word for it and take the time to find out for yourself, because the situation the world is faced with is a result of most of us blindly trusting others because they've convinced us they are trustworthy, and it takes time and effort to find those truths they don't want you to know. This is not an X file. This is one of many songs that I have written that I hope will encourage people to find out for themselves... either to disprove, or to verify. My initial quest was to disprove, and I could not. Lyrics took about a half hour. I made the artistic decision to have the song end as the instruments just "fell by the wayside" as the two instruments talked to each other, but still "marching" to the controlled cadence of the drum. The drum serving as a symbol of the government forcing control over its citizens, as represented by the other instruments, which drop out of the song, unorganized, with only the power to talk, but even that is controlled by the beat of the drum. Of course, that made recording it easier, and didn't take quite as much time as the majority of my songs. Congratulations, by the way, in case you got this far on the description. This is probably a lot more than you wanted to know.

    Listen to the Voices
© 2002 by Bill McClarty – All Rights Reserved.

The quiet voices are talking, but they’re not the ones you hear.
Instead, the network news anchor, holds you hostage with your own fear.

I know your life is busy, with little time to give.
But you won’t have any time at alll, If you’re not around to live.

So listen to the voices, hear their muffled cry.
It’s time to live life, yourself, or pay a price that’s way too high.

You read the daily news, to get your daily dose of lies.
But all you view is just for show, revealing much less than it really hides.

We trusted our fate to others with the power to decide.
So now the collar’s getting tighter, and there’s nowhere left to hide.

Listen to the voices. Heed closely what they say.
The bill is shortly coming due, and there’ll be much more than Hell to pay.

Observe the world around you, and then take a look deep inside.
Are you the captain of your own ship, or just a passenger for the ride?

And if the world inside you, and the world outside, are the same,
I’m sure you’ll get what you deserve, with just yourself to blame.

Listen to the voices. It may still not be too late,
To open your eyes to the forces that will otherwise seal your fate.

Listen to the voices, can you tell truth from lie?
Listen to the voices, unless you’re ready to give up and die.+-
