The music makes me think of a cross between Blues and a Broadway show tune. As with most of my music I try to create an image with the lyrics.

    Story Behind the Song
This song is sort of a description and testimony of my passion for the creative processes involved with writing, playing, singing. I wrote this song after staying up all night recording another song I had just written. Having lost all track of time, I saw light coming in through the window curtains, and thought "Oh, well, I've done it again." , which sparked another compulsion to write. The lyrics, except for a little polishing as I recorded, took me about 20 minutes to write. There's no hidden meaning behind the lyrics... they are a straight-forward "snapshot" of a moment in my life. I never cease to be amazed at how the lyrics "suggest" the music. (It happens the other way around, too, which is equally amazing). The basic structure and melody of the song was pretty well solidified in about an hour. I don't read or write musical notation, which gives me additional incentive to immediately get the basic song recorded while the vision of it is still fresh so I don't run the risk of forgetting it. Beyond that, the creative process continues through the recording process as the personality of the song grows with the addition of the instruments. As a result, I spent another 12-16 hours, directly on the heels of the all-nighter, to record it. As part of it, I keep pushing the limitations on my ability to play the instruments. My vision surpasses my performance capabilities, so I have to learn something new on one instrument or another for just about every song I've written so far. That's one of the reasons I never keep track of how many takes I have to do. If I contemplated that, I would probably get depressed. My "creative binges" would make it difficult for me to record in a commercial studio. I use a Roland VS 1880 digital studio workstation and have some some fairly decent studio mics.

    Done It Again

Well I’ve done it again… I stayed up all night.
Couldn’t help myself, cuz the music was right.
Each new thing led to another. I didn’t want it to end.
It’s a little like talking all night, with your old best friend. For hours on end.

It’s like I turned on a faucet. The words and music just flowed.
I’d go down one path, the another. Then that pathway became a road.
And this road didn’t any stop signs, and no traffic to get in the way.
At some point I realized night had become the day.
    And still I play.
Making Music makes me feel good, but I know I’ll have to pay.
For two days up and playing, I’ll be in bed for another day.
Not sure why I push so much, it can’t be good for me.
Maybe I’m afraid that each new song is the last that there will be.
    It sometimes worries me.
