Story Behind the Song
It was written after Andy Wolff was on the radio discussing with a local
agent on how Thunder Bay has such a lunch bucket music scene.
The song is about your typical local cover band and how there this
misconception that you have to play what booking agents and club owners
tell what you have to play. Although there is no profanity in this song,
some listeners may find this song offensive if they really like that song,
"Mustang Sally" or "Achy Breaky Heart" or are in cover bands.
Lyrics
Verse 1
Hometown bands, playing in the bars
Getting people dancing, thinking they'll go far
Playing all the hits, on the local scene
Chorus:
THEY DON'T PLAY ANY OF THEIR OWN
IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
THEY DON'T PLAY ANY OF THEIR OWN
IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
Verse 2
Hometown bands, paying all their dues
Some joined the union, while others just refuse
Some got it made, on the local scene
Chorus:
THEY DON'T PLAY ANY OF THEIR OWN
IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
THEY DON'T PLAY ANY OF THEIR OWN
IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
Verse 3
Hometown bands, play the talent show
The host signs them up, but he doesn't let them know
That his own band, will play most fo the night
Chorus:
GIVIN' LITTLE TIME FOR ALL THE REST
TO SHARE IN THE SPOTLIGHT
GIVIN' LITTLE TIME FOR ALL THE REST
TO SHARE IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Verse 4
Hometown bands, playing in the bars
Getting people dancing, thinking they'll go far
Some got it made, on the local scene
Chorus:
THEY DON'T PLAY ANY OF THEIR OWN
IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
THEY DON'T PLAY ANY OF THEIR OWN
IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
THEY DON'T PLAY ANY OF THEIR OWN, JUST MAUSTANG SALLY
THEY DON'T PLAY ANY OF THEIR OWN, JUST ACHY BREAKY
THEY DON'T PLAY ANY OF THEIR OWN
IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
