Story Behind the Song
The song deals with the pressure to conform,
and the need to 'fit in'
It took a couple of hours to write, but much longer to record.
It was completed with the aid of a computer as back-up band. I think the programming took longer than any other part of the recording process
Lyrics
Tired of life, and sick of sin
No eyes to look within
No faith in policies
No incentive to succeed
I'm tempted to accept the diet of the TV set
Sell my soul and not regret it
My fight's been fought before
Nobody kept the score
They'd rig it anyway, to swing opinion their way
CH: Yes, everything they say, you say
Well, do you belong?
Yes, everything they do, you do
Well, do you belong?
This isolation cannot be denied
Rejection rots inside
Without a friend to lose
Overpowered by solitude
The crowd will always be the victim of their jealousy
They teach you who to love and hate
But the lesson's too late
Repeat chorus:
...Yes, and everybody's wise
But everybody cries
'Coz everybody lies
But everyone denies it
