    Story Behind the Song
The song was written in the early '80s in a sharecropper shack in Duvall, though it could have been the '30s by the legendary Clarence Blisswater. It was written in pieces and more than one woman inspired verses. The recording took 2 takes max, at Kearney Barton's Auudio Recording in Seattle, in about 1992.

    Lyrics
If you don't like my peaches
    don't shake my tree
but I want to be your best friend baby
    now can't you see
that I want to love you
any way you let it be
yeah, I want to be your best friend baby now can't you see

well lady I ain't no circus dog
and I won't jump through hoops for you
but if you wants to get it on with me
well that's exactly what we'll do
Ain't gonna play no silly games
like who is bigger than who
you just tell me what you want from me
and I'll do the same for you

Little girl I ain't gonna be
just another heart on your chain
but when you finally decide that you are through with that game
and you want a little real love
I know you'll be calin' MY name
    and who knows baby
maybe I will still be the same?

If you don't like my peaches
why don't you try one of my plums?
And if that don't work we'll just go on down and get drunk with the bums
Or if you got somethin' better
I wish you'd just up and give me some
    but first, baby please,
    spit out that chewing gum

    (repeat first verse)
