    Lyrics
In the town where I was born
Lived a man who taught me all I know
And every time I think of home
    I see him standing there

And what he once said to me
About some things that would come to be
    I didn't know but I still believed
    He'd still be standing there

    I stayed with him
    Till the very end
    He was my best friend
A light that shined on me

I didn't know at the time
ForI was young just in my prime
How it can hurt and how hard you cry
    When you're left behind

    I stayed with him
    Through the thick and thin
    Some how we'd always win
    No matter what we tried

    They said for miles around
The day that he left town
They never heard such a lonesome sound
The wind wailed as it shook the ground

Now every day's just not the same
When I look back I look away
And if I could run I'd run away
To a brand new town to a brand new place
