	Story Behind the Song The basic idea presented by these lyrics is that the Earth is runied because of humans, and that creation is the key to making the most of our lives... trends, money, the legal system is not what we were born for. Highlights include Joel's interlude of tortured screams, done completely ad lib in the studio. Lyrics The earth was sacred till humans ruled and peace slowly drained away Life as we know it is a greedy hell which grows more day by day A once green earth of silver womb caressed by purity Is now a black thorned ball of doom raped by poverty Evil through the ages, sharpens like a grinding axe Ready to decapitate the whole of human kind It’s futile to resist the claw of mayhem Murder is just a tradition and war is just a game Evil leaders of the world put humanity to shame Battles for beliefs and land doesn’t make sense to me The system is corrupted and it pleads insanity A new dawn rises ev’ry morn and rids the shadows of night But one day the world may wake to doom unless we keep up the fight So come on now, discard your trends and devote your life to creation It may not be a new world yet but it’s certainly inspiration
