Story Behind the Song
This song was written in Amherst, MA a long time ago with my good friend & superb guitarist Mike Pollard. It was finished here in Austin Tx & was the 2nd song recorded for the new album (To Sweeten Up). The lyrics are a kind of Part II for "I'm Outta Style" -- about consumerism, sociology, & love. This song has a surprise middle portion that Deb Norris once described as "prog-rock" and I said "what does that mean?" and she said "like Rush" and I got real quiet....
Lyrics
I'm in a line, strangest faces stare me down we all look left look right around, it's unbeknownst to me I think we all look kind of goofy
I push pause, you should check this out yourself in privacy or play-do house, people drive in bubble cars but not the trees and not the stars.
Chorus:
But I'm gonna have to close my eyes to
money retail and millionaires
I might find... that you were right
I don't know why, what we wants not in the stores but we still shop and we still find, my closet's full of 9 wrong things I think I'll have to hide
I'm starting to swim, it's to my ankles to my knees, it's to my snout it's to my sneeze, these people in the houses don't know what they're missing
Chorus
I told you one time not so far
I told you two times not so far
I told you three times not so far
Chorus
