Story Behind the Song
A classic story with classic results. Two kids in search of freedom. They find each other and strive to make it on their own. They open up their hearts minds and souls. This was written while I was walking down Newbery St, Boston, on a beautiful, warm day.
Lyrics
8-ball Jack strapped on his cap loaded his gun cause he ain’t coming back since the
War time rally and Long Tall Sally evaded the trade up to Tin Pan Alley. Now
Five-star living is four stars short of the wish he made back in 1999.
Time flew, and the west wind blew him away, shall we say that he found himself looking for
Freedom on the new frontier
When the road is wide and the signs are clear.
Which way to run and you laugh at the sun
As it shines on your face and you find a new way home.
Carmen Sanders can’t understand why her
Feet are on fire and her mother is threatening her
Life for sure there is a rhyme and a cure that gets
In through the gin and beyond the tall tale
Signs that motion and Jack’s love potion spilled dead on the bed
And it was growing by the second time a‘round
The bushes are shoves and pushes that strained her poor brain so the
Poor girl had to catch a breath of
Freedom…
Jack and Carmen have long been starving for pills and it
Kills cause they leech each other’s
Love- sick conscience and no one’s honest to what’s in their hearts
But they’ve got each other’s
Blood and money to help them run away, so they say, from the town
Where the preachers’
Sin with children, cause no one’s buildin’ their homes and it shows, but they’ve
agreed to name their first born
Freedom…
A new way to dance
A new way home
A new way to feel, to love, learn, and grow
A new way to find a brand new tone
A new way to count the clouds on your way home.
DA da da da da da…
