Story Behind the Song
When i first wrote the lyrics to "Pretentions" i had written it cause a very dear friend had just quit our band to join his college band as a local newspaper was writing a short article on them....It's not about an ex-girlfriend!!!! The rest is pretty simple to figure out....The song was recorded in 36 hours.....we're not that rich.....one take for all instruments and the vocals.
Lyrics
Verse:
" It all seemed so perfect,
till Mr. Greed came along.
I thought we were one,
together we'll brave the storm.
All our vows of seeing paradise,
still seem so real tonight,
but then you went away.
Why, oh why, doesn't time pass me by?
How much longer do i sing my pain?
Finish it off with a soft lie,
or wash my tears in the rain......"
Chorus:
" Maybe i shouldn't dance so loud,
So my love isn't all that pure.
Conversations of a different kind,
Just pretending, it's me and you...."
Spoken Word:
" A million people mocking me,
telling me it's all mundane,
different strokes, make or break,
don't know if that's what at stake.
Groovy or not, i'm not gonna stop,
waited enough to reach the top.
This ain't the tale of a wasted lover,
a truth i didn't discover.....
A story of a brother and a sister and a mother and a father,
who lit a few sparks,
but couldn't light the fire......."
Bridge:
" Something's pulling me back,
Frustrates ny innocence......"
