Story Behind the Song
This song's motivation came from my recently re-singled status. More importantly from the fact that I don't want to become un-singled again... The song's intro was around for quite some time before I actually got into writing it (hence the lag in releases shortly before this) but once I got going sleep was a secondary phenomenon.
I also didn't want to sing yet another song where I was seeming to give answers to life, or that I was a saviour or whatnot (because I'm not really -- gee really?!) I wanted something where I was the culprit in the end (but the songwriting took "in the end" a bit literally too) Anyway, that's why it's here.
Lyrics
Lonely desperate people,
Fighting for themselves.
All they want is some salvation;
All they need is consolation.
See their hungry faces,
Yearning for some bread.
These their calls of desolation,
Floating from their isolation.
Searching for eternal grace,
Longing for a resting place,
To ease the pain and quench the fear,
Just to kjnow that you were there.
Searching for eternal grace,
to bind the hands and shear the face.
To longingly approach the grave,
To find the peace to end the crave
Join the ranks of people,
Searching for themselves.
Break the bonds of lamentation,
Find your peace with isolation.
[Refrain]
(final refrain)
Searching for eternal grace,
I'm rushing at a fury's pace.
To ease my pain and quench my fears,
So I will know that I was there.
