Story Behind the Song
The girl "Lorraine" is a combination of how past friends, girlfriends, bands, jobs, and just life in general all bring you to today. You think back to bad experiences like a girl that dumped you or your old band that broke up and realize that if it hadn't happened, you might not have that wonderful wife you have now or be in the great band you're in. There's an underlying theme there that you are also probably that bad experience in someone else's life, but hopefully they're better off for it now too.
Lyrics
Spring fades and summer winds
Come around and blow you in
To a place where you've already been
One time and time again
There you are and here I am
I always knew that we could not be friends
But I'm glad you let me down
Or I might not be where I am now
I think I knew we never meant
The happy promises we said
We were only meaning to an end
One time and time again
There you are and here I am
Right back where we started from
But I'm glad you let me down
Or I might not be where I am now
Yeah I'm glad you let me down
Or I might not be where I am now
If you see Lorraine
Tell her that I changed
If you see Lorraine
Tell her that I'm not the same
Lorraine, Lorraine, did you ever cure your pain Lorraine
I think I knew we never meant
The happy promises we said
We were only meaning to an end
One time and time again
There you are and here I am
Right back where we started from
But I'm glad you let me down
Or I might not be where I am now
Yeah I'm glad you let me down
Or I might not be where I am now
If you see Lorraine
Tell her that I changed
If you see Lorraine
Tell her that I'm not the same
Lorraine, Lorraine, did you ever cure your pain Lorraine
