A business man writes to home to his mother wishing he could express his many regrets. Every day that he works the monster moves closer, and the closer it gets the further away is the possibility of atonement.
CD: Braving the Nightview   Label: Army Aunt Productions
Credits: Written and performed by Jake Godfrey

    Story Behind the Song
I'm not a business man, but the phone at Army Aunt Studios just won't stop ringing. Not a moment of peace in weeks, and even the elves managing the production room are losing their minds. But I just can't leave home without my cellular phone, its like leaving an unattended crying baby at home. Seeing no alternative, I pour my heart out onto a piece of looseleaf.

    Lyrics
Mama I grew up to be a businessman
A man with a master plan
I strut all around and get the people lined up
To fit them in their cans
Money be damned, see I'm a slave all day
    Do as the people say
Get them in their cans and out of the way
    That's why I get paid.

My woman says I'm a provider now,
    My bosses pay my bills
    They hired a little boy
And raised him right to run the mill
Now who am I to choose my fate
When fate is in my shift
At school they taught me no man owns
His life when life's a gift

The monster knows what's right and
    Who am I to disagree
I've dug a garden row by row
And now it's all I see
    Some people walk the earth
    And paint italian dreams
Well my days are all planned out
    I'm married to the machine

Now fourty floors below me men in
    Cans do what I've done
And every year adds another floor
Till my office scrapes the sun
And when it falls they'll take care of me
    Until I'm back ahigh
My money says the monster stumbles
    On the day I die

And I hope the stocks all plummet then
And my employees turn to smoke
I hope the whole fucking world falls on its knees
    I hope you all choke
    I miss you
    And I love you
And I'm jealous of your simple life

The monster moves at a very fine pace
And so the world goes round
I do my part to keep its gears greased up
    To turn without a sound
See, the wheels of the monster turn just right
    When everything's in its place
And to see them wheels go round and round
Puts a smile on my face

The monster knows what's right and
    Who am I to disagree
I've dug a garden row by row
And now it's all I see
    Some people walk the earth
    And paint italian dreams
Well my days are all planned out
    I'm married to the machine
Well my days are all planned out
    I'm married to the machine
Well my days are all planned out
    I'm married...
