Story Behind the Song
Don and I were fiddling around waiting for Brian to show up for practice, and while I was playing the chords, he came up with this cool Native American beat and lyrics came to me right there. The song was originally a rocker all the way through, but we later decided to slow down the verses.
Lyrics
Mighty Indian warrior,
Marching off to fight.
Have you told your mother
You won't be home tonight.
Worried Indian mother,
Why you wait for me?
I'll be home someday,
You'll be proud of me.
Don't cry for me, don't wait for me.
Don't cry for me, don't wait for me.
Little Indian sister,
Waiting quietly at home.
Just sit by the fire
You'll be safe and warm.
Little Indian brother,
Why you wanna be like me?
I'm out killing others,
You should pray for peace.
Don't cry for me, don't wait for me.
Don't cry for me, don't wait for me.
Don't cry for me, don't wait for me.
Don't you cry for me,
Don't you wait for me, don't cry for me.
