Story Behind the Song
Mike G. had a bad night... The lyrics came together all at once that evening. The music was actually written in Disney World, on a borrowed guitar during a class trip!
This song was recorded twice by SON. It was first done as part of the original 7-song demo at Dare Studios. When Mike G. was studying at 5 Towns College, SON was given the opportunity to record a song, and so used it to re-record this song. Jim Annunziato and Mike G. engineered and produced this version.
The extra long ending appears because as the song ended, SON looked up at eachother through the studio windows, and just kept jamming! Tom kept the beat going, Jody followed, and the Mikes played along! We had free studio time, and we wanted to take advantage of it! The result became known as the "disco ending."
Lyrics
Lack of luster, shines no more. Waiting, shivering on the floor. Left for pity and despair. Cold, because they left you there. No one cares for your existance. Lived your life chained to a fence. When you reach for the shining star, falling short reminds you who you are. Left to fend for your own, with two ways to die alone. One leaves all behind in tears. Two will erase all of your fears. Glad there's no more left to do. Go move on to something new. Don't look back, you'll make it through. I haven't lost all faith in you.
Time goes by way way too fast. But you'll never live forever if you're living in the past. Last chance now draws too near. Will you still give in to that fear? Try as hard as you might. Agony lives on into the night.
Is this now what I've become? Living day to day, but living none. Old and miserable, alone with me. Is this the you you thought you'd be?
