This is where it all began. This is the original recording of Rosebud that came booming out of Room 15 in the Pi Kapp house in the spring of '92. The source tape was the actual tape that so many of you heard more than enough times that semester. |

Story Behind the Song
Ken came to my dorm room one evening with an idea for a song. He was wanting to work on it, but I was ready to drink some beers. So I humored him for a while and we collaborated for a bit. I was ready to go, so I started to come up with some nonsense lyrics to go with the music. Later in the week, I "liberated" the schools 4-track recorder from the room downstairs in the music Building. I proceeded to Ken's room in the KA house (which later became the Pi Kapp house), where we began to lay down tracks. This was my first attempt at recording. Several hours and several calls from Colleen later, we were finishing up the Zeppelin-esque overdubs and getting ready to mix down. This recording is the product of that evening. By the way, Matt takes credit for showing Ken the original guitar riff at the beginning of the song.
Lyrics
Sweet little rosebud in my face
I can't trace the scent to this place
Living, feeling, hoping, probing
Wondering if sonshine will come my way
Building up my love for weeks
The garden spot is all I seek
Take it away, save it for some other day
Or someone else
I've had enough, so go to hell
My heart, squashed like monkey brains
Severed chains
Pouring free down other's lanes
