Story Behind the Song
Originally written on keyboard (all white notes!) with completely different lyrics after a broken romance in 1983 under the title "All The Love Songs". Later decided lyrics were far too slushy and self-pitying so replaced them with something more positive i.e. my usual sort of thing about how underneath everything we are all one with each other and the universe blah blah ;o) Recorded various Marillionesque progressive rock versions with Burnessence in early 1980s, including title track for 1984 album. This version recorded for compilation album in 1990. Have plans to work on a new version in 2003...
Lyrics
Empty all the useless words that clutter up your mind,
And listen to your heart that's beating steadily inside.
Letting go of everything,
See nothing's what it seems.
Asking all the questions,
Find the answers in your dreams.
Chorus
No I know it's not that easy but I'm sure that we can see,
That we are part of everything,
And I am you are me.
I am you,
And you are me.
Floating down an endless stream,
Another time and place.
You can't avoid the evidence that stares you in the face.
Everything is as it is,
For now and ever more.
So place the key inside the lock,
And open up that door.
Repeat chorus.
I'm trying to keep my mind open to you,
I'm losing a grip on the things that I do.
So often I don't know what I'm doing here, But somehow there's always a way through the moments of fear.
Repeat first verse.
