Story Behind the Song
I got ripped off by a contractor in a neighboring state, and had driven there to find him, but all I found was an empty office and an FBI agent. I wrote the lyrics on napkins and odd bits of paper I had in the car, while driving back from Idaho. To me, the lyrics pretty much suggested the musical delivery, and it all came together pretty fast in a marathon recording session.

I’m Gonna Getcha
© 2002 By Bill McClarty
Somebody hurt you, they upset your life.
Well you know you have my sympathy.
I know it wasn’t right, but you’ve got no excuse,
For what you did to me.
I gave you trust, I gave you my money.
I thought you’d hold up your end.
But you did me wrong, and stole from me.
After I tried to be your friend.
Well, I won’t break your arms, your legs or your neck.
I won’t shoot at you till the bullet hits you.
It might be tomorrow, next week or tonight.
But it’s for goddamned sure, I’m gonna get you.
I try to forgive, and I try to forget,
I really wish that I could say:
That this time I’ll turn the other cheek.
But you took that other cheek away.
I might not have gotten, maybe half as mad,
If you hadn’t just run and hid,
Like a low-life thief in the dark of the night.
But that’s exactly what you did.
Well, it might take a week, a month or a year.
Don’t start to think that I’ve missed you.
Better not forget, Cuz you won’t see it coming,
When it finally comes and it hits you.
Pay close attention, there’s a lesson to be learned,
In the future if you want to stay alive..
You better be more careful, about who you hurt,
If you want Stay alive.
