Story Behind the Song
I wrote this the day after 9/11, and it is unexpectedly upbeat. A revised and polished version of the lyrics has been published as a poem. As with most of my music, a marathon recording session of roughly 24 hours brought this recording to its current state.
Lyrics
Brand New Day
By Bill McClarty © 2001
Daylight comes, the morning Sun Light is on the Rise.
The night is gone, with the Dawn but Leaves a Dark Surprise.
I heard it said there’s thousands dead, But the Stream of Life still runs.
Ain’t had much rest, But I’ll give my best. The New World’s just begun.
So I’ll get on with it, Can’t just sit quiet and play dumb.
The Past is gone, and I’m moving on, and Take Life as It comes.
IT’S A BRAND NEW DAY!
Been having fun, Life’s just begun, gets better all the time.
Don’t have to care, or feel despair. Freedom’s nearly mine.
I Cleared my mind, Left the past behind, But the future is a fright.
Can’t keep me back, cuz I have the facts. This time I’ll get it right.
IT’S A BRAND NEW DAY!
I got a great new groove, I’m on the move. I’m finally satisfied.
Music in my head, Feeling Good instead of Running Off to Hide.
IT’S A BRAND NEW DAY!
