    Story Behind the Song
I wrote the lyrics for this song in the winter of 2002. It fit my mood at the time. When I was getting exciting about doing this recording I decided I would really like to have a vocalist on at least one tune. So a few days before the rehearsal I sat down at the keyboard and began hearing the chord changes to embrace the lyrics.

I also had Janna in mind because of her talent and empathy.

I think of this song as an archetype. I have a lost verse of lyrics to it but they were a little too direct.

    Lyrics
    He's prayed for rain
    He's prayed for snow
    He's begged for change
But it's all the same as he's ever known
Just too many days on empty

    He's spent his life
    in vague pursuit
    of what is right
on the chance it might be proof
    of an unhardened heart.
But we all get caught off guard.

His faith broke his fall but broke.
And all the pieces of man's true believing
    are floating on the wind.

    He strained to hear.
    He ached to know.
The answer clearly laid before him,
what he hoped was too much for him.
But we all get caught off guard
    by the language of God.
    It's floating on the wind
but we all get caught off guard.

His faith broke his fall but broke.
Since then he's longed to hear his name being called
in the rush of the stream
    and the water's fall.
    In every child's voice
    and every bird's song.
    In fluttering wings,
in the buzz of the hive.
How the breeze through the leaves
    is whispering love.
    In the moaning of lovers
    feeling skin on skin.
    In the ringing of churchbells
    or the laughter of friends.
    In the downpouring rain
    or the thundering sky.
In the ocean in a seashell.
In the truth in a lie.

    It's floating on the wind,
    the language of God.
