Story Behind the Song
I wrote it to pitch at Jerry Lee Lewis, and you could say that the title also draws inspiration from Chuck Berry. I enjoy making "literary" references to other songs in my writing. The first couple lines of the second verse were changed at the recording session, to more accurately suit Jerry Lee (I didn't have a fancy car when I wrote it, and said so, but DID have a rented one the night of the session!). A very slightly different version also appears on my CD "Rockabilly Rhythm & Blues".
Lyrics
I ain't a-gonna be your Mister Right
it don't mean we can't get it on tonight
and you ain't gonna be my only one
it don't mean we can't have
a little bit of fun
Let's Shake it, ain't gonna break it
we can make it, if we take it
so Let's shake it
I got a great big fancy car
and you look just like a movie star
this could be our scene to steal
come on baby show me how you feel!
Let's Shake it, ain't gonna break it
we can make it, if we take it
so Let's shake it
You don't wanna, I don't wanna
You don't wanna, I don't wanna
let our peaches rot!
Come a-hugga, come a-kissa
come a-hugga, come a-kissa
show me what you got! Whooooo!
Let's Shake it, ain't gonna break it
we can make it, if we take it
so Let's shake it
(repeat bridge and chorus)
