	Story Behind the Song Even though I now own some expensive guitars, I'm still a sucker for a cheap score at a yard sale or thrift store! I wrote it in an afternoon in about 1983 and this version (one of 3 of mine so far) was likely recorded in one take since it was a staple of live shows by that time. The first recdorded version appeared on a cassette called WAM BAM BOOM, and another live version appears on "Rockabilly Rhythm & Blues" by myself with the Shack Shakers. The film "On Golden Pond" was recent, and I borrowed a line about sucking face from it (sort of) for the last verse. Lyrics Went to a yard sale the other day when I looked on the table I said "hey hey hey!" it was a Japanese copy of the same guitar Buddy Holly was a playin' when they made him a star I asked the lady "hey what's the price?" & she said "25 bucks if you treat me nice!" well I'm a sucker for a cheap guitar! I'm a sucker for a cheap guitar! some day I'm gonna be a star! right now I'm a sucker for a cheap guitar! down at the dump is where I found the amp when I brought it on home it was a little bit damp When I first turned it on all it did was hum but a little while later I was starting to strum I turned the amp back on, and lo and behold I sounded like the man I saw on Solid Gold! I started to boogie all around the place there was a great big smile coming on my face (chorus) A pretty little girlfrom across the street come a-runnin' on over when she heard my beat she said, "I don't want to bother you or bring you down but I just had to come see about that crazy sound!"
