The #7 Progressive Trance song in California, #26 in the US (2-15-03). "War is Peace" - "Eurasia vs. Oceania"...no longer fiction. If the White House gets its way, Big Brother will soon be doing a lot more than watching us. It's called the "Domestic Security Enhancement Act of 2003". Word is, Cheney/Bush had intended to slip this one through *after* the war began, but someone within had a change of heart. Copies of the completed, ready-to-be-signed, bill were leaked from the White House just before the war on Iraq. To this date, Ashcroft refuses to discuss its contents, even refusing to answer questions from Democratic and Republican Senators, when he was called down on the Senate floor over it. The new law would grant the Bush/Cheney gang authority to conduct secret arrests and punishment of any US citizen. Under this law, if you happen to associate with someone who belongs to an organization (even perfectly legal ones!) which Ashcroft disapproves of, your citizenship could be revoked. I swear, I'm not making this up. :) Person in charge would be - you guessed it - US Attorney General John Ashcroft. He'd have authority even over all judges in the land. It would be the end of our experiment in democracy. It's all in the bill. There was a very interesting interview by Bill Moyers on the NOW program. It was with the Executive Director of the nonpartisan Center for Public Integrity, Chuck Lewis. That's the organization which first received a copy from that unknown White House employee (A hero, btw!). Here's a link to that segment: http://www.pbs.org/now/transcript/transcript_lewis2.html | MP3.com CD: Newspeak - buy it!
