Story Behind the Song
This is the first song I have written that I feel is really starting to represent me and what is really in my soul. Charting my personal progression: symbolically referencing Dante's Inferno; racial, religious, and romantic confusion; and prefacing the songs I have yet to write, this song shows how I am more than meets the eye. I hope you like it as much as I do. :)
Lyrics
One day I thought I fell down nine and I was down with Dante
Pick it up and dust it and yeah that is your body
Add a spirit, add a mind and then you’ve got the quantity—and that’s me.
Circular addition, some call it superstition, but
I make the connections based on the predilection that
I know (know) that I am something else
Humanity is on a shelf (shelf)
It got lost somewhere in the histories
Chorus:
And I (I, I, I…)…You (You, you, you…)…And She.
And this little girl (little girl) she borders on the color line
limited perceptions of how you want to be defined (be defined)
familial frustrations from the amalgamation of (amalgamation of)
genetic composition and natural dispositions, but
I’ve got the answer to your name
And I refuse to take the blame
And I will not succumb to your ‘Other Box.’
Chorus:
And I (I, I, I…)…You (You, you, you…)…And She.
Bridge:
So here’s what Billie said:
All of me, why not take all of me?
Only have eyes for you. (Only have eyes for you)
Merge the body and the soul.
It’s how you take control.
The answer’s you. (Only is one answer)
So dream a little dream with me,
Turn (dream)on (a)my (little) TV (dream) screen’s duality.
Buddha one, yeah he wants to be Buddha two
and Buddha two, yeah, he is not concerned with you (doesn’t care)
Point and counterpoint disjointed in your joints and you’re
convexed in your confusion and lost in the abyss of you (oh you)
I’ve got the secret to get out
Let me tell you what I’m about
I’m sorry that it took me so long (I’m sorry)
Chorus:
And I (I, I, I…)…You (You, you, you…)…And She (oh oh oh)…is me
And that’s me.
