    Story Behind the Song
The idea for The Cost of Loving You comes from listening to certain modern bands who have managed to successfully merge fresh, new ideas with a long history of classic rock influences. While the music is distincly up-beat rock with a toe-tapping shuffle beat, the lyrical content is an attempt to express the bitter irony of being blinded by love in a light-hearted way. This is when you're looking back on it and laughing. My girlfriend thought this was a good way to kick off the CD. This is a basic rock 'n' roll song with two guitars, bass and drums. The addition of backing vocals and a witty turnaround make it a fun tune to sing and play. You might catch yourself humming this one on your way to work one day. Hopefully you'll be able to remember where you heard it!

    Lyrics
    I should have seen it
In that look on your face
    I should have heard it
In the things that you said
    I should have felt it
In the feelings that weren’t there
    I should have known it
From the way you brush your hair

    Chorus
But I chose to believe in you
For the heart is not wise
    Now I pay the penance
    I realize

    The cost of loving you
    The cost of loving you

    If I could go back
Turn back the hands of time
    And start all over
Run away from you this time
    For happiness
    Is elusive when you’re near
    And misery
    Is assured by your despair

    Chorus

    Why do I feel lonely?
Why do I feel so ashamed?
You’d have thought I’d feel happy
To know you’re gone, so gone

    The cost of loving you

    Chorus
