The title track from the debut CD "The Long Haul" by Tim Marks is a melodic, dynamic composition featuring clean electric guitar sounds, introspective lyrical content, and a powerful melodic guitar solo. This track is an easily accessible, enjoyable piece typical of the electric "tones" utilized throughout the CD but in a more straight-forward POP-sounding composition. |

Story Behind the Song
It is often so difficult to tell in a relationship when it is time to pack up and move on. For a variety of reasons, we find ourselves trapped and paralyzed; unable to realize that the attachment we once held so deer to us is actually the very disease that is preventing us from acheiving happiness. The Long Haul is about a series of "clues" or introspections that make one realize a failing relationship, confronting the fear of letting go, and the ultimate realization that something better lies ahead. It's about lamenting the past but finding the courage to take control of one's own destiny again. It's not about giving up hope, it's about finding new hope through real change.
The Long Haul was written in 1999. It was the seed that led to future compositions comprising the CD release by Tim Marks, "The Long Haul". It seemed appropriate that it would become the title track of the project.
Lyrics
If I could only decide
What I feel inside
But then I realize
Someone else decides
So I sit here alone
Till the feelings ebb
Where will I be without you?
I gave you my thoughts
I gave you my all
I gave you my love
And I took the fall
You know I can’t decide
How many times I tried
Where will I be without you?
Chorus
It’s no good when you feel that time
Was wasted on the way
Got to find me some piece of mind
Something else will come along
Something better next time
Something for the long haul
You used the crystal frame
From our wedding day
You put the picture where
I would be sure to see
A man whose heart is true
Should never feel so much disgrace
Where will I be without you?
Chorus
Bridge
In times like these
Got to give your all
In times like these
We will be strong
