Yet a fourth version of the song...more of an indie pop/lofi vibe this time. Still has those cool west coast harmonies with a little more raw vocal this time around, and a Stereophonics-meets-Beach-Boys sound. |
Credits: Donovan Twaddle: lead and harmony vocals, acoustic guitars, bass, drum sounds |
Story Behind the Song
I wrote this song in my apartment in Fargo, ND a few years ago. I had the bridge first and tossed that around for a while before I started writing the chorus and finally the first verse. The second verse I didn't write until about two years later when I was living in Champlin, MN and playing with a band (I never did so in Fargo). We played the song in all our rehearsals and every show we ever did to date. We loved it that much. Hope you do too.
I recorded the song myself becasue I now have recording gear at my disposal in my house. Even though it started as a band song, the recording became a solo effort. It only took me an afternoon to lay down all the tracks for this song (there are six acoustic guitar tracks, six vocal tracks, two bass tracks, and a drum track)
Lyrics
marked with that letter / wish I could do better than this / running out of time / just one more rhyme that I missed /
hey loser / recognize the nature of sin / hey loser / reconcile yourself and you'll win / you don't know, you don't know / what's in store for you / hey loser / I still love you
marked with that letter / capital L branded in my skin / a suckerpunch to the left jaw / and a good swift kick to the chin /
hey loser / recognize the nature of sin / hey loser / reconcile yourself and you'll win / you don't know, you don't know / what's in store for you / hey loser / I still love you
to you I'm a prince even when I'm a pain /
you treat me like a star even though I'm a stain
