Story Behind the Song
this was written during something of a low, soul-searching time. the lyrics at first glance are fairly paradoxical and nonsensical, but there is a meaning to be found somewhere. they're abstract enough to mean different things to different people - you'll have to draw your own conclusions.
this was one of those songs where you sit down after a hard day, pick up your guitar, start to pick out a guitar part, and away you go... half an hour later you have the full song, with lyrics and all the guitar work.
Lyrics
try to make sense of your life
been here once you've seen it twice
never lived in this much hate
with my love i compensate
show me what you think of me
turn the lights off, let me see
lead me homewards, out to sea
change the world to let it be
chasing shadows in the dark
live in fear of what you are
chained and broken on the floor
chasing shadows
see another, just like you
you don't know what you would do
in your place you see him stand
left of centre on the plan
-chorus-
all you know is you don't know
should you stay or should you go?
if you go i'll be with you
if you stay, i'll be here too
-chorus-
