Story Behind the Song
Today, there are those who wish to tear down the old established ways of doing things. There's nothing wrong in trying to modernize, but we must be careful with some things we try to change. Like the old light house, which some people want torn down because they say it is no longer needed. What if, a storm knocked out the modern equipment we used to help ships navigate in dangerous waters? It certainly would be useful then.
Today, just like the old lighthouse, there are those who wish to do away with the Holy Scriptures and our Lord and Savior. They say it's too old for our modern times. What they don't realize is that Jesus will stand forever, when all else is gone. He is our lighthouse, forever more.
Lyrics
THE LIGHT HOUSE
VERSE 1:
There’s a light house on the hill - side, that overlooks life’s sea,
When I’m tossed it sends out a light, that I might see;
And the light that shines__in darkness, now will lead me safely o’re.
If it wasn’t for the lighthouse, my ship would sail no more.
CHORUS:
And I thank God for the lighthouse, I owe my life to Him,
For Jesus is the lighthouse, and from the rocks of sin;
He has shone a light around me that I might clearly see,
If It wasn’t for the lighthouse, (Bass: Tell Me) where would this ship be?
VERSE: 2
Everybody that lives around us says, tear that lighthouse down,
The big ships don’t sail this way anymore, ain’t no use it standing ‘round;
Then my mind goes back to that stormy night,
When just in time I saw the light,
Yes, the light from that old lighthouse that stands there on the hill.
