Another off the Me-CD. Faster, meaner, with a burglar alarm and a sprinkler system. Or something. This is about as close to rock as TV's Adam can get with just his acoustic guitar.

    Story Behind the Song
Conspire got pieced together over a good long time, and I think that shows. ...is that a bad thing? It used to be called "Again," but the irony of the repetition of that word in the song and then its use as the title, "again," as it were...it just made my head hurt.

I remember writing the bridge in Florida, while hanging out in the time share we were supposed to be considering buying at the time. You know, like when they pay your way up there and let you hang out for a few days just so long as you go to a meeting or two? It really was a beautiful place, but come on. Is my family the kind of family that buys time shares in Florida? ...I guess you wouldn't know. Well we're not.

This is one of the angrier songs I've written. There are few angrier. It's kind of an attack on apathy; or maybe it's a testament to the songwriter's inability to let go of anything. One or the other.

You can ask about the "cough out a moth for me" line if you like, but the explanation is sad and disappointing even for me.

    Lyrics
    a pair of disembodied eyes
    staring out across an ocean
    of blind and smiling faces
    here's me in the arms
of a lovely dream of civility

could it be that underneath everything
    you've been emptied out?

    look me in the face
    i am still angry
    i've been running circles
around your logic and your actress

but i'm running out of patience
waiting for you to hand me a way in
and i know you never notice
but you're turning up offensive again

"but come on, let's be reasonable here
you can't expect nothing to change"
she says it with a shrug and a smile
cuz she knows that it won't matter
    when she comes back again

i think you got too pretty
    i think it's your contentment
    that's making me nervous
    you don't need anyone
    so maybe i'm not here

    so if you don't remember
then none of this is happening

    "let's not get crazy
this is just the way it is
there's no use asking the questions
that won't ever get you an answer"

but if i'm not asking anything
    then i'm just giving in
and i know it doesn't matter
but i'm tired of being ignorant again

"but come on, let's be reasonable here
it's really not that big of a change"
she says it with a different voice
    than she used to have
    and i'm upset again

don't let me scream this time
she's next to me and trying to go to sleep
when she wakes up i guess
she might just cough out a moth for me
don't let me scream this time
they're outside and trying to make it worse
    "don't you know anything?
we'll just pretend that nothing's different"

    this changes everything
    because after all
    i do not act
    i only conspire

"but come on, let's be reasonable here
you can't expect nothing to change"
and if i'm coming or going she's happy
but maybe i won't be here
    when she comes back again
